5 Tips to Prepare for Valentine’s Day at Your Salon or Spa

By Denise Prichard

September 1, 2023

We’re quickly approaching one of the most romantic (and profitable) days of the year—is your salon or spa ready to show your clients some love?

Even though salons and spas have faced a multitude of challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Valentine’s Day is still the first big holiday of the year for your business and it presents you with the opportunity to increase revenue.

This year will look a little different than it usually does since social distancing and safety guidelines require you to limit the number of clients you can have in your business at any given time.

Due to these restrictions, one of the biggest challenges you may be facing is coming up with unique ways to attract new clients and retain your existing ones. However, if you start planning your marketing efforts now, you can make sure your business is organized and profitable during this time of year.

If you haven’t had a chance to nail down a marketing plan for the big day, have no fear! We have some tips to help you reap the benefits of the day of love.

1. Take advantage of gift cards

Gift cards are an excellent way to generate revenue all year long but they can be an especially effective marketing tool to increase sales on Valentine’s Day.

Think about it—most people have someone special they want to pamper on February 14.

So, providing gift cards as a purchasing option is a simple and convenient way for clients to shower their loved ones on this special day.

Make your gift cards festive by customizing their design(s) with V-Day pizazz and/or your branding.

Also, consider offering a “Buy a $100 gift card, get a $25 gift card for free” promotion for those looking to both give and get.

2. Offer a promotion your clients can’t help but love

Create a promotion that helps draw in both existing and potential clients alike. Couples will get to spend the day together at your salon or spa, which is fun for them and great for business.

Your “Valentine’s Day Spa Special” might include a complimentary add-on service or a special discount for couples looking to enjoy a (socially distanced) service side-by-side.

For example:

  • Spas can offer a couple's massage for clients to enjoy

  • Nails salons can create a service that allows couples to get manis and pedis together

3. Spread the love (and the word)

The key to success with any promotion? Getting the word out through all of your marketing channels.

Share your Valentine’s Day specials with:

  • Signage at your front desk
  • Social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram
  • Email and text marketing

With Marketing Suite, you can promote Valentine’s Day specials with email and text campaigns customized to your brand.

4. Create Valentine’s Day themed product and service bundles

When clients come to your spa or salon to purchase or redeem Valentine’s Day gift cards, offer them a service or product add-on to get the most revenue out of their visit.

For example:

  • A spa could offer a special that combines a massage and a take-home lotion
  • A salon could pair and discount a haircut and color
  • A nail salon could feature a manicure and pedicure deal

Wondering what you can do for those clients who don’t feel quite comfortable coming back to your business yet? Put together unique product bundles they can give their loved one on this special day. You can even go the extra mile and select products that are Valentine’s Day-themed.

For example:

  • A spa could offer a product bundle that includes a rose-scented lotion and body oil
  • A nail salon could pair and discount red and pink nail polishes suitable for the holiday

5. Make sure you’re listed in the Mindbody App

That’s where the Mindbody app comes into play. The Mindbody app is every consumers’ connection to wellness and beauty, no matter where they are. They can book at the businesses they love or discover a new favorite place to get their beauty services.
