4 Types of Weekly Emails to Send Your Clients

Communicating with your clients outside of sessions is an easy way for you to help them succeed, and allow you to increase accountability and improve client retention while building stronger client-trainer relationships.

Luckily, you don’t have to text or call on a regular basis to make the most of this client communication. Instead, get set up with an email tool like Constant Contact or Emma and start sending weekly emails.

But don’t just ask your clients how they’re doing; provide them with valuable articles, discounts and more. Check out these four types of weekly emails to keep your clients engaged, motivated and coming back for more.

Incentives for Referrals

Take advantage of word-of-mouth marketing by incentivizing referrals. Once a month, send an email that not only tells clients that they’ll be rewarded for referring a friend—a free session, discount on their next package, etc.—but reminds them to do so. Change the incentives each month or season, or offer a standard, consistent set of incentives based on the package that the referred client  purchases.

Healthy Eating Tips

Healthy living is a way of life, and as a trainer you are likely only working on one part of that in your client’s sessions: exercise. Help them build a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle by sending nutritional eating tips, too.

  • Suggest a healthy recipe of the week, complete with a full list of ingredients and step-by-step instructions to help create the recipe at home.
  • Guide clients to healthy, affordable food options. For example, Aldi offers shoppers the best prices on food, according to a recent survey, even more so than Publix or Trader Joe’s. This sort of information helps clients realize they don’t need to spend a lot to live a healthy lifestyle. You could also send links to coupons or discounted online grocery opportunities.
  • Share a healthy restaurant of the week or month, to help clients make the most nutritious decisions when  dining out. Send tips for finding the healthiest items on menus.

The best part: Providing nutritional tips also helps you build on your  value proposition, since clients are getting more than just training sessions.

Workout Homework Challenge

Staying in shape is a full-time job, but many clients are new to fitness and don’t know how to work out on their own, or lack motivation. Help them get past this by sending weekly workout challenges.

You could go a step further and create a YouTube video, and include the link in your weekly email. If you already offer videos like this, emails are a great way to get more mileage out of them.

Client Testimonials

Promote the success of your personal training program by including a client testimonial or client spotlight in your weekly email. Pick one of your most successful clients who would like to share their fitness journey and include details like their starting and current weight (with before and after pictures),  personalized workout plan,  weekly diet and  fitness goals for the future. This gives your clients motivation to continue on their own fitness journeys and shows them that they’re in good hands.

Staying in touch with your clients doesn’t require constant texting or frequent phone calls. You can use emails to communicate with all of your clients at once while providing them with a value-added service outside of their training sessions. Consider how you can use emails to improve your client relationships and give some of these ideas a try.
