What the FILTER Are Categories?
By Meredith Simmons
Think about the last time you were searching for a service—it's a pretty safe bet that you headed to your favorite search engine or app to find it. Hopping on Google (or Yelp or Bing) has become such an ingrained part of our culture that we expect to see things we're looking for online and on mobile apps quickly and easily.
Fitness, wellness and beauty seekers are no different—when they want to find a class or appointment, they want to be able to open the MINDBODY app, do a quick search or filter and discover the perfect class or appointment they're hunting for. Until recently, searching in the MINDBODY app relied solely on keywords in each business listing, rather than a set of well-defined keywords and popular filters.
We realized that we had the opportunity to help improve how your business is discovered by MINDBODY app users and released a new way for you to categorize your classes within your software, so users seeing hot Pilates in Pasadena, HIIT in Houston or yin yoga in Ypsilanti can find the exact classes that they're looking for—without clicking through every MINDBODY app listing to find the right fit. The screenshot to the left shows you what this looks like within the refreshed MINDBODY app.
How do you optimize your search and filtering?
When you add a class or appointment in your software, be sure to select a category and subcategory before publishing the class. To make this easier, we’ve compiled a list of categories and subcategories for fitness, wellness, and beauty businesses.
While all new classes and appointments require these categories, you’ll still need to update your existing inventory in your MINDBODY software to reflect the new categories lists. (Don’t worry, though. We put together an FAQ to help guide you.) Without completing the category and subcategory boxes within your software, your services will show up categorized as “Other.” Imagine if the businesses in the screenshot on the right didn’t say Spin or Pilates, but rather: Other. It’d make it hard for a MINDBODY app user to find and book your classes.
With the help of these lists, pick the best fit for each of your classes or appointments—you’ll make your business more visible and drive more bookings. Isn’t that a win-win?
