Let's Spring Clean Your Fitness Studio

By Denise Prichard

As we kiss the last of the winter blues goodbye, we’re celebrating the coming of a new season. Spring has sprung! There’s much to be excited about: better weather, flowers blooming, spring break, and of course, new opportunities to promote your fitness studio.

It’s the perfect time to “spring clean” your fitness studio, including updating your online presence and improving communication with customers and employees.

Allow your online presence to truly blossom.

97% of people search for services on the internet before ever stepping foot inside a store. You’ve got A LOT to lose without a good online presence. Assuming you already have a website and social media pages, think about the last time you updated it.

Make sure you update all of the major areas of your online presence:

Website.

  • Update your current employees
  • Include an online booking link

  • Include links to your social media accounts

  • Make sure all the information is up to date including pricing, service menus and location

Social media pages.

  • Make sure you have profiles on all of the main social media platforms
  • Facebook

  • Twitter

  • Instagram

  • Linkedin

  • Pinterest

  • Make a plan for posting and build a social media calendar for the reason

  • Set new goals to grow your social media audience

  • Delete any old pages that aren’t working for you or have old information

Enable your staff to spring into action.

You’ve got a lot of big holidays and seasonal items coming up, including Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, wedding season, and prom season—just to name a few. When you’re rushing to manually

fill your employee shifts, you can leave your business vulnerable to double bookings or lapses in coverage. With a good fitness studio management software, all of that can be avoided, easily.

Access your schedule from anywhere.

Whether there’s an emergency with one of your staff members or you’ve caught yourself in a situation where you’ve double booked—the ability to access your calendar while you’re on-the-go is crucial!

Keep your employee profiles organized.

Having easy access to your employee records can give you an in depth look into your bottom line. You’ll have a clear picture of which employees work the most, which employees get the most commission, and how their overall performance is. Insights like this can help ensure that you’re optimizing your employees and their schedules.

Give your clients a sunny disposition.

It's a simple equation, the more new customers you acquire, the more revenue you gain. The easiest way to make more money is to generate more repeat business from your current customers. The more you get customers to come back, the more they’ll become loyal to your business.

You can achieve this by streamlining your marketing efforts and incentivizing your current customer base. You can start by implementing a rewards program that allows your most loyal customers to rack up points for rewards each time they set foot in your business. This type of system is simple to put in place and is extremely effective in garnering repeat business from your existing customers. And remember, when you have happy repeat customers, they are more likely to spread the word about your fitness studio to their friends, family, and co-workers.

Spring promotions are in the air... or inboxes.

This is a great time to start leveraging your email marketing efforts and pushing out targeted emails to your current and new clients. This season gives you ample opportunity to come up with good, effective and clever email ideas to increase traffic and bookings at your business.

Springtime is a social affair.

Having an updated social media presence is critical for modern businesses. With 2.2 billion monthly active users, social media gives you the opportunity to promote your business to a much larger audience. Social media engagement can help you increase sales, boost brand awareness and increase loyalty with existing customers.

When you post, consider following the rule of thirds:

  • 1/3 of posts promote your business.

  • 1/3 of posts share ideas/posts from influencers in industry.

  • 1/3 of posts are personal interactions/building your brand.

Update your header and profile pictures.

  • Add something seasonal/festive for spring
  • Use a stock photo (or if you’re a photographer your own photo) that represents the season and your business

Promotions and giveaways.

Everyone loves a good business special or promotion. Using social media to promote them can be highly effective. Paying for a larger number of people in your audience to see a post can spread the message on Facebook and get you greater exposure.

Here are some suggestions:

  • Tell your followers that the first 5 people to share and comment on your business’ springtime promotions will receive 15% off their next class or any inventory item at your studio.

  • Hold a gift card lottery. For every picture a client posts of or at your business, they get entered into a drawing for a free gift card at your fitness studio. Winners can be announced at the end of each month.

The idea is, the greater the social engagement, the greater the reward. So just make sure you’re keeping that in mind when crafting your promotions and giveaways.

Pro Tip: Don’t forget to use the proper hashtags for the spring season–they help users follow specific themes or topics you’re fitness studio is posting about. Try using #Springcleaning, #MothersDay, #FathersDay, #Prom, #WeddingSeason, etc.
