How Spa Software Helps Massage Businesses Attract Clients

By Denise Prichard

October 3, 2023

According to recent Mindbody research, the importance of integrative health is steadily growing, with around 30% of Americans saying they make these types of services a priority in their lives.

Massage is by far the most popular integrative health service in America, with 60% of people who get regular integrative health services reporting they reaped the benefits of receiving at least one massage last year. On top of that, 21% of people who are interested in trying an integrative health service are wanting to try a massage in the near feature.

Younger people are particularly interested in booking their first massage; 26% of 18-25 year-olds who are interested in a new integrative health service want to try massage. Even if those impressive numbers aren’t convincing enough, massage revenue hit $18 billion in the US in 2018.

And these numbers makes sense since it has also been found that massage regulars report having a better quality of life claiming they feel more satisfied with their overall health, tend to stress less, and exude a more chipper demeanor at work.

To break it down even further, our research also revealed the popularity of receiving at least one relaxing massage within the past year by gender and age demographic:

  • 64% of women

  • 56% of men

  • 51% of 18-25 year-olds

  • 62% of 26-45 year-olds

  • 62% of 46-65 year-olds

The importance of spa software for massage businesses

With all of these people and transactions to manage, that’s all the more reason to implement effective spa software. Whether you are working alone or in a team, you’ll want to dedicate as much of your time as possible to actually performing massages rather than spending time operating a massage business.

Online booking

If you are a single practitioner, one of the most important capabilities of your spa software should offer the convenience of allowing people to book an appointment with you directly from your website, Facebook page, or even your branded mobile app.

The ability to fill your schedule while you are busy working on other clients, outside of business hours, or even during your downtime, is a huge help to a growing business. You may even be able to manage a small studio without front desk help, saving you money in salary for that position.

Even if you have a mid-sized spa with more than a couple team members, the absence of online booking is likely to be costing you appointments. Often, people don’t have time to book luxury services during the workday. They think about or remember to schedule their spa appointment right when they get home from work or right before they go to bed.

Marketing capabilities

Spa software is also a valuable marketing tool, especially in situations where you need to grow or maintain your client base but have limited time. Whether you’re emailing your clients, sending them texts to encourage them to come back to your business, or posting events and promotions to your social media pages, you can effectively grow your revenues without investing hours of your time.

Point of sale

Financial record-keeping will become much easier and more accurate by using the software’s point-of-sale terminal feature to record sales revenue from services and retail, and, potentially, tip income.

No need to count up a bunch of slips at the end of the day, or try to make sense of scribbles in a hand-written appointment book; just click the mouse and all of the information you will need will be there.

Beyond just recording revenue, the point of sale data that you collect will enable you to analyze your business performance and spot trends that you may want to build upon. High appointment demand for certain days or times might mean that you are able to add staff or shifts to the schedule.

You can track retail sales by category and provider and better manage inventory cash flow. And knowing which of your staff members is retaining clients can be a key to appropriate client distribution.

With so many benefits and positive outcomes to using spa software to manage your massage business, there is no reason to delay utilization of this valuable tool to help you grow your business to extraordinary heights.
