Men and Beauty: 5 Reasons to Join the Self-care Party

I think the saying goes something like, “no matter what happens in the span of 24 hours, there’s nothing some self-care can’t fix,” right? Okay, I just made that up, but it does have some validity.

Let’s face it—some days just feel a lot heavier than others. We can all attest to that.

Whenever I’m having a particularly long day, there’s not much I crave more than some "me" time. What does the perfect self-care routine look like to me? Well, it can be anything from a simple bubble bath and mani/pedi to a massage or facial. For a lot of us, self-care isn’t just an act of luxury—it’s a daily commitment to our own long-term well-being. And more than that, it's a personal investment in ourselves—which isn’t limited to any gender BTW.

For the most part, society’s longstanding narrative has been that self-care is an act of pure lavishness more commonly enjoyed by women. We don’t buy this for a second, which is why we want to take a moment to officially welcome men to the self-care party. Manicures, pedicures, facials, and massages—everyone’s invited.

It can improve your health

It feels like a given, but sometimes the serious benefits of investing in a new beauty service are largely missed. While services like facials and massages do feel amazing—they’re also good for our overall health. Taking care of your body (externally and internally) can prevent illnesses and increase your sense of wellbeing, which is a positive for everyone.

Self-care reduces stress

Sit back and kick your feet up (literally). Booking a personal wellness service is a guaranteed way to relieve tension while taking a little extra care of yourself. Almost every beauty service offers the sensation of relaxing because you’re letting someone else take care of you—even if it’s just for a small window of time. It’s a calming experience to go into an appointment knowing that your only job (aside from being there) is to soak it all in. We all deserve moments like that.

You'll feel and look great

When we look like our best selves, we usually feel like our best selves. Investing in beauty services can boost our self-esteem by giving us extra confidence in the areas we feel we need it most. According to our Mindbody Wellness Index, 37% of men said they agreed or strongly agreed with the following statement: I continue getting specialized beauty treatments like lash extensions, blowouts, etc. because they make me feel like myself.* We couldn’t agree more. Beauty treatments overall make us feel better about how we approach our daily lives—a feeling we all deserve.

Never get bored with one thing

Whether you’re craving a massage or looking for something new like BOTOX®, permanent makeup, or full-body skin treatments (mud and detox body wraps) the list of ways to invest in yourself is long and expansive. Maybe you tried cryotherapy, but didn’t love it—fortunately, there are still hundreds of different ways to invest in yourself and find a routine that you really love. It also means that you’re not limited to one way to treat yourself. You can commit to monthly pedicures and on those days when you feel like you need a little extra, you can fit another service in. This is the beauty (literally) of these services.

Lastly, indulging in a day where the most important thing on your to-do list is to invest in yourself is just a lot of fun. Dedicating a time slot where you go into a beauty appointment, knowing you’re going to come out feeling better than before is a hard thing to not be excited about. Not only does it feel great to make yourself the only priority for a day but getting your glow on is a real blast.

Bottom line—self-care is a necessity for all human beings to live their lives at their highest potentials. It is a staple for any person looking to pour love into their own cups and make themselves the priority that we all deserve to be.
