Founded by Patrick De Jongh, the business began as a simple retail store, offering a space where people could access wellness products in an approachable way. Over the years, the business has grown in both size and vision. Just a year ago, they expanded by opening a biohacking center, creating an innovative space where traditional wellness practices meet modern techniques. 

Today, When Nature Calls offers a variety of services, including matcha Pilates, yoga, meditation, red light therapy, ice baths, sound baths, and breathwork. These offerings are carefully curated to meet the needs of Amsterdam's modern and diverse community. 

At the heart of daily operations is general manager Haylin Neal, who leads the team. We spoke with her to learn more about When Nature Calls, the business's growth, and how Mindbody has helped them along the way.  

Discovering Mindbody and ClassPass

When Nature Calls built its business around a blend of old and new wellness practices designed to optimize performance and recovery. It needed a management platform capable of supporting that vision. When they launched their biohacking center, the team faced a crucial challenge: finding the right system to support their growth. With numerous options available, they sought more than just a tool to facilitate the initial transition. They needed a platform that could evolve with them over time. "Finding the right platform wasn't easy," Neal recalled. "We knew we needed something that could really support us after onboarding—not just in the first few weeks."

"There was so much to learn," said Neal, "but the Mindbody team was patient and supportive, which made it possible for us to scale more quickly." 

Over time, the team has discovered just how much the platform offers. "Still a year on, we're discovering what we can do with Mindbody," Neal said. Features like scheduling for their hybrid model of appointments and classes, lead management, and robust reporting tools have made a big impact. The branded app is also a highlight: "It was really easy to learn with the onboarding specialist. We can easily customize and change it, and we regularly advertise that we have the app." 

ClassPass has been another key part of their journey, introducing countless new clients to their business. The integration between Mindbody and ClassPass has been seamless—clients who book through ClassPass appear automatically in the Mindbody system, making check-ins and scheduling efficient.  

How Mindbody stands out

Since adopting Mindbody, When Nature Calls has seen remarkable growth. What started as two daily classes has expanded to as many as six, with the platform making it effortless to add staff and adjust schedules as the business evolves. Neal shared, "Our business is very adaptable. We like to move with trends and experiment. Having a backend system that can keep up with that constant change is incredibly helpful." 

One of the most impactful features for When Nature Calls has been Mindbody's marketing tools. These features allow the team to build and maintain strong, personal connections with their community. "We really pride ourselves on the intention behind our work and the relationships we build with our customers," Neal explained. "It's great that we can track details like our clients' favorite milk orders. Having that kind of personalization through the lead management tool is invaluable." 

Automated marketing campaigns go beyond one-on-one personalization, like event updates and birthday messages. It also helps strengthen these relationships even further, ensuring every client feels seen and valued. Additionally, with in-depth reporting and analytics, the team can easily segment data, target specific groups, and understand client behaviors more clearly. "When it comes to scaling, you need a great customer relationship management system. Mindbody just does that for us," Neal said. 

When asked to summarize their journey with Mindbody, Neal chose three words: supportive, accommodating, and dynamic. She added, "Mindbody delivers great value for the cost, with a wide range of features. A huge part of that value was the onboarding process. The team was patient and supportive. There was so much to learn, but their support made it possible for us to scale and grow more quickly." 

Looking ahead towards growth and expansion

Looking ahead, When Nature Calls plans to expand its offerings, with acupuncture on the horizon and a long-term goal of opening a second location. Neal credits Mindbody and ClassPass for making that vision possible: "At the end of the day, we wouldn't have so many people coming through our doors without these platforms. They've supported our growth every step of the way."
