6 Holiday Marketing Strategies for Your Med Spa

By Denise Prichard

With festive cheer in the air, a shared spirit of gift-giving, and the excitement of a new year around the horizon, med spas have an incredible opportunity to showcase their services in engaging and enticing ways during the holiday season. Not only are many med spa treatments and products perfect for gifting, they can also be the ultimate way for your customers to unwind after a long year.

So, if your business is ready to increase sales and grow its membership this season, we’ve outlined six merry and bright marketing strategies to get you started.

1. Host in-person events

The holiday season is all about getting together with friends, family, and communities to celebrate, reflect, and create new memories. This makes it an opportune time for your med spa to invite existing members and their guests for a festive holiday event. You’ll get the chance to show your clients just how appreciative you are for their business while introducing them to new products, services, or holiday specials. An event like this will show your med spa clients how much they mean to you as well as allow you to make connections with potential new customers. Consider these ideas for your event:

  • Holiday open house or party
  • Cocktail hour or meet-and-greet with your team

  • Potluck meal with a tour of your location

  • Treatment or product demonstrations

Be sure to promote your events in advance through customised email campaigns, text messages, in-house displays, and word-of-mouth. Record contact information for everyone who walks through your door. You'll likely want to organise a follow-up campaign to promote discounts, packages, and add-ons and to stay top of mind long after the event.

2. Expand your reach with a virtual event

Virtual live events are a great alternative to in-person gatherings and an inclusive way to get customers in on the fun who couldn’t attend IRL. This can be as easy as a Facebook or Instagram Live holiday "wine and shop" party. Get people excited by offering a 15% discount on purchases made within 24 hours of the event to clients who virtually bring a friend.

Plan ahead with questions and activities to boost engagement, and offer discounts, coupons, bundle specials, draws, or prizes for participation.

Other ideas for holiday medical spa virtual events include:

  • Treatment demonstration via Zoom, Facebook Live, or Instagram Live

  • Product demonstration for skincare treatments

  • New product launch with demo or explanation

  • "Ask-me-anything" with a provider

Before you go live, always be sure to test run your sound and video quality, background, and any technical settings that might need adjusting. Avoid sounding scripted but do prepare a structure for your narrative. Leave time for audience participation through a Q&A session or even a quiz.

3. Sell retail bundles and holiday baskets

If you want to boost your med spa retail sales, limited-time bundles and holiday gift baskets are a fun way to incentivise purchases. Bundles and baskets make it easy for clients to gift spa products and can be the perfect way for customers to treat themselves to something unique and special.

Build a basket with a few of your most popular products, add in some holiday flair with festive packaging and messaging, and maybe even toss in some surprise extras—like product samples, sweet treats, or mystery coupons. Or, keep things simple with smaller bundles that pair less popular products with your bestsellers. This way, you can sell products that might otherwise go unclaimed on your shelves. Don’t forget to promote these offers and discounts early and often across every marketing channel, including email marketing, social media, and your physical space, too. Spreading the word about your spa's promotions is the first—and perhaps most important—step toward generating more retail revenue.

4. Highlight your gift cards

You probably already sell gift cards throughout the year as part of your staple med spa marketing strategy, but the holidays are when you should lean into promoting them.

Encourage members to purchase gift cards by spotlighting just how versatile they are as a present. Use messaging that showcases all that gift cards can be used for, from one-time treatments to the retail products you offer. Plus, give members ideas of who might enjoy receiving a med spa gift card—think teachers, essential workers, mothers-in-law, coworkers, stressed out bosses … the list goes on.

Use wintery colors and images to evoke that cozy season feeling and make the cards available in a wide range of dollar values. Most importantly: Make it easy for customers to purchase your gift cards. Give them the option to buy online, via mobile, or in-store, and allow gift cards to be picked up, mailed, or emailed and printed.

5. Give gift givers a little something extra

It’s no secret: People like free stuff and they like treating themselves. So give them what they want! Reward gift buyers for their purchases by offering discounts on services or products.

For example, create a holiday spa promotion like "buy a gift card and get 15% off your next service," or "spend $100 on gift cards and get a free $20 gift card." Whether the buyer holds on to the freebie for themselves or gifts it to another person, you’ll gain two customers from one transaction. You can also reward customers with something they can use themselves, like a free 10-minute aromatherapy scalp massage or a discount on a specific service.

6. Engage members online with social media challenges

A social media challenge is a simple marketing tactic that encourages engagement with existing followers, utilises user-generated content, and can even attract more social media traffic, leads, and sales. For example, this holiday season you might host a seven-day Instagram challenge. Set a different daily theme and invite followers to post pictures using your specified hashtag. Then at the end of the challenge, enter all the participants into a raffle to win a prize.

A few potential challenge ideas include asking your followers to share:

  • Their skincare routine

  • Their face with their favourite face mask

  • Their favourite beauty meme or quote

  • Their best anti-aging tip

Don’t forget to remind followers to encourage their friends to participate in your holiday challenges. You can also use Instagram to poll your audience about their go-to treatments and their favourite at-home self-care tips to help increase engagement.

Make sure to incentivise participation by randomly selecting winners for gift baskets, gift cards, or other fun giveaways unique to your medical spa.

Promote your holiday marketing strategies

Before investing time and money in holiday specials, decide which marketing channels work best given your current and potential clientele, as well as your marketing resources.

Email marketing

Email is a tried-and-true digital marketing medium any time of year, and the holiday season is no exception. Reach your audience wherever they are with personalised messages you can automate to send at just the right moment. Promote your holiday discounts and deals, spread the word about upcoming events, and remind customers to come see your team to get the perfect holiday glow.

Mindbody’s comprehensive Marketing Suite can help you promote your seasonal specials through customised email announcements, weekly newsletters, and new-client welcome emails

Text message marketing

Do you want to build even more personalised connections with your customers? If so, use Messenger[ai] to craft holiday marketing messages that are sent to clients via text
