3 Ways to Freshen Up Your Fitness Studio’s Website

By Denise Prichard

Customers expect the fitness studio they frequent to not only have exceptional classes and phenomenal instructors, but also an intuitive and appealing website.

Today, it's easier than ever to build and update a modern, beautiful, and responsive website with an unbeatable user experience.

With a well-designed website, you can create meaningful interactions with everyone who visits, from potential clients to your most loyal ones.

If your fitness website needs updating, here are a few tips to get started:

1. Streamline to keep visitors on your page

Setting up a functioning website is one thing, but creating something that drives engagement, and sales, is a whole different story.

Every person who peruses your website is a potential client, which means you need to make a memorable first impression and create a seamless experience to keep them on your page.

Branded web tools help your visitors book and pay for classes or memberships directly on your website. It’s challenging enough to get visitors to your site and take action, so make the checkout process as user-friendly as possible. When it comes to your client journey online, efficiency is key.

2. Do a content overhaul

Optimizing your website’s content and updating it frequently helps keep your website fresh and relevant. When fitness-minded folks search for potential studios, you want yours to show up on the first page of results.

How can you make this happen? Here are some tips:

  • Use HTTPS: To help improve your search ranking,  make sure your website URL starts with a lock symbol and “https”. That way, both visitors and search engines like Google know your website is secure.  Without this security standard, website will be left in the ranking dust—and that means your chances of nabbing new clients online are significantly decreased.

  • Keywords are key: A successful SEO marketing plan starts with keyword research to see what terms your target audience is using to find your business, services, or products online.

Not sure where to start? Use Google Keyword Planner to pinpoint the best keywords to use throughout your website.

  • Use metadata: These are short descriptions embedded in your website’s content that search engines like Google will show on their results pages. With keyword-rich descriptions, you’ll help increase your search rankings.

  • Include alt text in your images: Search engines look at embedded image titles when crawling websites. Descriptive alt tags help search engines better understand what your business is all about.

3. Create an intuitive and modern design

A confusing and out-dated website drags down the user experience on your website. When redesigning your fitness business website, make sure it’s easy to navigate and looks sleek. Here’s how:

  • Keep your page layout simple. The main goal of your website is to increase bookings. Update your website with this in mind. Make it easy for prospective customers to access the information they’re looking for (i.e., class schedule, pricing, etc.) with a clear navigation and simple layout.

  • Add a CTA to your homepage. If you don’t already have a call-to-action button (CTA) on your homepage, now is the time to incorporate one. If you’re like most fitness studios, you likely have an introductory offer to attract new clients to your business—what better way to display this special than making in front-and-center on your homepage? Make it stand out with a CTA button and you’ll up your chances in gaining new clients. Here are some tips on creating effective introductory offers to gain new clients.

  • Keep content updated and organized. Make sure all content on your site is updated, clear, and to the point. Maybe your studio is offering a new type of class or you recently added a new instructor to your team—display these changes clearly and as soon as possible with descriptions that reflect your most current offerings.

  • Use high-quality imagery and/or videos. Video content, specifically, shows your services in an engaging way. Be sure any photo and video content is high-quality and sized properly to avoid slowing down your site. The last thing you want is a page loaded with outdated or confusing copy.
