4 Ways Wellness and Beauty Businesses Can Get Ahead of the Holiday Season

By Denise Prichard

As a wellness or beauty business owner, the multitude of challenges you face day-to-day—keeping clients happy, keeping your staff busy, ensuring inventory is stocked—never seems to end. However, arguably one of the most challenging aspects of running any successful business is coming up with effective ways to attract new clients and retain your loyal customer base.

With the holiday season approaching, you now have the perfect opportunity to start planning your marketing efforts early to ensure your business is organized and profitable throughout the rest of the year.

Here are four ways you can get ahead of the holiday season this year:

1. Update your website now

Your website is one of the first impressions you’re able to make to a new client, and we all know how important a good first impression can be—especially for a wellness or beauty business. September is the perfect time to take stock of your current website and make sure you’re including the following:

  1. High-resolution photos of your business, your staff, and inclusive stock photos. As long as you have permission from your clients, you can also share photos of them enjoying your services. As with your social media pages, it's important to visually show why clients want to visit your business.
  2. Easy access to information on all your services, pricing, and any specials you may be running.
  3. The ability to book an appointment easily and seamlessly straight from your website.

2. Plan on offering different specials each month

Every new month comes with the opportunity to freshen things up. Consider creating a new monthly special at your business every month leading up to January. It doesn’t have to be anything crazy, the point here is just to generate a little buzz, and give clients something to be excited about.

Try something like $10 of your next massage or beauty service during the month of October, or offer a free $25 gift card for each $100 gift card purchased in November. Remember—these don't have to be anything crazy, just something for clients to appreciate. A little buzz can go a long way in terms of attracting more clients to your business and keeping your existing ones happy.

3. Plan out holiday product bundles

You can’t always reinvent the wheel. In some instances, to attract more clients and keep your existing ones, you don't have to. Maybe you don’t have any new treatments or services this time of year and that’s okay! You can easily work with what you have and essentially make something new from that. Think about new product bundles for the holiday season.

If you’re like most beauty and wellness businesses, you can make a substantial amount of profit from the retail you sell. Consider pairing some products together and creating some product bundles (cinnamon-infused body lotion or pumpkin spice bath products anyone?). If you already do this, switch some items within each around to get a combination that's new.

4. Gift cards are always a good idea

Especially keeping holidays in mind, gift cards can play an important part in the success of any local salon or spa. Think about it—gift cards are the perfect gift to give for both you and your clients.

For clients: Gift cards are excellent items for last-minute shoppers to purchase for their loved ones. Let’s face it, a lot of your clients might know their loved one wants a spa day or one of your beauty products but doesn't know what to exactly get. Gift cards are a win-win in this situation.

For you: Gift cards are guaranteed money for your business. You've already made the purchase, so if clients forget to redeem, your money is already in the bank.
