Two things are close to Reina Pratt’s heart: her business, Potomac Pilates, and animals. Her two interests combined into contributing to Fashion for Paws, an event to benefit the Washington Humane Society.
“Fashion for Paws approached me three years ago to participate in their fashion show,” Reina said. “We had two fundraising events, which featured a silent auction and raffle.”
Potomac Pilates also teaches a special, donation-based Pilates for Paws class, the proceeds of which go to Reina’s Fashion for Paws campaign. Through their efforts, Potomac Pilates has been able to reach out into the community and generate more interest in Fashion for Paws, as well as raise over $22,000 over the last three years.
“The community has been tremendously supportive,” Reina said. Most of our clients own a four-legged friend and were very receptive to our collaboration with the Washington Humane Society. Each year we exceed our previous goal and all the proceeds go to the Washington Humane Society.”
Reina suggests that if other businesses want to create charitable events, they should choose causes that are personal to the owner and would benefit the business and its clients.
“I would suggest researching what is going on in your immediate community, attend events, and be engaged with other local businesses and see what they are doing as well.”
Reina also utilized MINDBODY in her fundraising efforts by using the “Free class option” and updating the banner on her website to draw attention to fundraising events.
“MINDBODY made the donations process seamless and easy for the business and clients to participate. Making it the first thing clients see when they access their MINDBODY account.”
