My name is Connie Borho, and I am so excited to be asked by MINDBODY to be a guest blogger. I’ve been in the fitness industry for over 30 years, and have been teaching Pilates for more than 20 of them. I started taking Pilates lessons to recover from an injury, and quickly decided that this exercise modality was the one I wanted to bring to my clients exclusively.
I’m originally from New York, and was lucky enough to be able to study with many talented Pilates teachers. My first certification was through The PhysicalMind Institute, which had a teacher training center right on Broadway in NYC. I immersed myself in study and apprenticeship for over 2 years, and healed my injury at the same time!
I’ve continually studied and mentored with Pilates luminaries, movement therapists, and physicians. I feel continuing education is critical in our industry to remain fresh and relevant, and to avoid burning out. Two years ago I completed a two-year mentorship with Pilates Elder Lolita San Miguel, and am filled with pride to call myself a Second Generation teacher.
I’ve managed and taught at many studios and health clubs in New York, and owned a couple myself. When I moved to Florida, I created Balance Pilates & Yoga Centers on the West Coast of Florida, and co-direct with my daughter, Carly, who is also a Pilates teacher. At our studio we have many classes, but focus mostly on privates and small groups. Our studio is an education center for Peak Pilates Teacher Training, as well as a continuing education center for any mind/body fitness professional. I teach anatomy workshops, special populations training, advanced teaching techniques, and business and marketing courses, to name a few. It is one of my greatest loves to be able to mentor and coach other Pilates teachers in order to bring our methodology to a new generation!
