The modern martial art of judo first appeared in the Tokyo Summer Games in 1964. Whether you’re a competitor, a traditionalist or just looking for a fresh workout, these five dojos offer something for you.

DC Judo

DC Judo features beginning classes, ongoing practice and member training, and asks only that you bring your enthusiasm and an open mind. Focusing on fun, fitness, training, competition and “the joy of movement,” DC Judo provides classes for all fitness and skill levels.

Elevate Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Elevate Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu offers lessons for kids as well as self-defense classes, but maintains a specific goal of turning out world-class black belts. With a background in judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ), the staff at Elevate also teaches Sambo, capoeira and Uechi-ryu karate. This diversity in fighting styles encourages a broad appreciation for different disciplines among students.

Hanabi Judo

Over its 50 years in business, Hanabi Judo has trained more than 100 state, national and international champions. The studio achieves this success in part by accentuating fun and health over all else. While judo is an individual practice, Hanabi emphasizes that students learn best by forming friendships through practice.

Silicon Valley Judo

The wide range of classes at Silicon Valley Judo (SVJ) makes it a one-stop dojo for all practitioners, from Judo Rangers for kids to adult competitive classes. As a family-run dojo, SVJ highlights physical health, education, sportsmanship and discipline, with the goal of guiding each student toward the mental and physical benefits of judo.

Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo

With more than 300 members, including 11 black belts in judo and BJJ, Harrisburg Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo welcomes skilled and beginning students alike to train in a challenging and rewarding environment.
