Doesn’t sound very exciting, right? It’s not really meant to be. But gosh! How much more simple and inexpensive does it get than drinking water? If you knew how beneficial drinking hot water was for your health, you might get hooked, like me. Hopefully, by the end of this article, you will be.
Your body is 60% water. Water lubricates our joints and the various mucous membranes in our body, like our lungs, our GI tract, our nostrils, etc. Water is also a major component in our blood and in our nervous system; our brain is 70% water! Water helps us detoxify by forming urine, perspiration, and stool as a means of releasing toxins and unwanted material.
Because water nourishes our tissues and plays such an important role in detoxification, it has a stabilizing effect on our overall constitution. It keeps the body in a state of homeostasis, a state in which all organs and systems function harmoniously.
Water is a vital component of every single cell of every single tissue. We can go for weeks without eating, but just 2 or 3 days without drinking before passing out. Keeping ourselves hydrated is essential to proper functioning of all our body’s systems.
Keep It Hot
Many people are accustomed to drinking cold water - even ice cold. But your body temperature is 98.6 F. What do you think happens if you dump ice-cold water in your system? Your whole insides contract. Your digestive fire, which needs to be kept hot and sharp to break foods down efficiently, is weakened. If you have a habit of drinking cold water, don’t be surprised if your digestion is poor and you suffer from cramps, nausea, gas or constipation.
You know what a plant looks like if you don’t water it for too long; the same happens to human bodies when they don’t get enough water. If we do not drink enough, our tissues dry up and shrivel. We feel rusty, stiff and cold.
Sipping on warm water is deeply hydrating. It will relieve constipation, cleanse your digestive system and flush your lymphatic system by increasing fluid circulation and encouraging better waste removal. Drinking warm water even helps you feel more satiated with less food.
Get into the practice! Get yourself a thermos. In the morning, fill it with hot water. Yes, you may add some lemon for flavoring and added liver-cleansing benefit. Then, sip on it throughout the day. It’s as simple as that.
