6 Tips to Tighten Your Online Security

By Mindbody

Security is a big part of your day-to-day life. The “beep beep” after you lock your car, the zig and zag of your finger on your phone screen, and the deadbolt on your front door all give you assurance that your physical property is safe. However, do you have equal assurance for your property that lives online?

Follow these tips to make sure the personal and financial information you store on the web is secure.

  1. Create complex passwords.

    • Let loose and mix it up with numbers, letters, and symbols—and don’t be shy with the shift key!
  2. Protect your login information.

    • Usernames and passwords don’t belong on Post-It notes. Your head is the safest space to store your password, but if you’re juggling too many in there, try a trusted app like 1Password or LastPass to keep your credentials.
  3. Set up security questions.

    • What’s your mother’s middle name? What was your high school’s mascot? What color socks were you wearing on your first date with your third boyfriend? The answers to these quirky questions act as an additional line of defense for online accounts. Make sure you set them up for your Mindbody owner account.
  4. Don’t share.

    • Your login information should only be used by you. With Mindbody, we advise subscribers to create separate accounts for each user. This keeps everyone accountable for what happens when they’re logged in.
  5. Manage account access.

    • If you’re using a software or site with multiple users and logins, be aware of who can see what. In your Mindbody software, use staff permission groups. These dictate which pages and functions the staff members within the groups can access while they’re logged in. When a staff member leaves, make sure to deactivate the account so that staff member won’t be able to log in your software anymore.
    • Run the Entry Logs report to see the date and time of each instance that a client or staff member logged in to your software. Each entry will also be stamped with an IP address to show you where people have logged in from.
  6. Think before you click.

    • Often, online attackers will attempt to fool you into taking an immediate action such as clicking a bogus link or opening an attachment. If something seems suspicious or too good to be true, don’t click!
