- Q. Who from my organization should attend?
- A. We highly recommend that both the owner and manager attend MBU. The sessions cover business theory, marketing, best practices and financial planning, subjects most relevant to the owner and manager. The sessions also cover hands-on technical training to use MINDBODY, which may be done by the owner, manager or desk person of your organization. We find it most effective when everyone is on the same page. If you are unsure, please contact Roxanne Banta.
- Q. Do I need to bring a laptop?
-
A. Yes, we require that you bring a laptop computer for the MBU online hands-on training sessions.
- Wireless internet (Wifi) access is essential to this online training. Please make certain that your wifi access is up and running. If your general wifi access is not good, we recommend obtaining a backup method for wifi access like an Airport or a Wireless Access Card.
- Check the general health and wellness of your laptop. Naturally, a sound and functioning laptop is critical to your ability to participate in online training. You will need ample power (and the ability to operate on battery as well as AC/corded power), and a solid internet browser and sufficient memory to run wifi, internet and Microsoft Office. (View all the system requirements for MINDBODY).
- Make sure Microsoft Excel is up and running on your laptop and you are familiar with its basic functions. Excel is a vital partner to MINDBODY for data analysis and reporting features, and you will be using it for these purposes during training.
- Make sure the MINDBODY feature “Sales Team Management” is enabled on your MINDBODY account. Path: Toolbox > Setup > General Setup > System Settings: Sales Team Management.
- Q. What are the one-on-ones?
-
A. The one-on-ones are an opportunity for you to address the specific needs of your business one-on-one with a senior MINDBODY team member. This can include technical questions or issues that you have with MINDBODY; marketing strategies; accounting and payroll; or financial reporting, to name a few.
Our team’s expertise ranges from general business consulting to marketing, structural or technical consulting. The one-on-ones are offered to customize your MBU experience and make sure you get what you need.
Feedback from our 2006 participants rank one-on-ones as one of the best features of this training. To get the most out of your one-on-one, we encourage you to prepare in advance by determining the key points of your business where you could best use expert support, and to come prepared with specific questions, issues and supporting materials.
- Q. If I am a new MINDBODY client, is MBU appropriate for me?
-
A. There are now two levels of training offered at MBU. If you are a new user, attend the beginner level of MBU and learn how to become more proficient in the basic operations of the software. However, MBU should not be regarded as a replacement for your initial MINDBODY client training. You must be fundamentally proficient with MINDBODY and familiar with the basic operations of the software to benefit from MBU. MBU can help new clients run more profitable and efficient businesses and avoid many of the common mistakes that new businesses make.
If there are sessions that you do not think are relevant to your new business, you may choose to schedule a one-on-one during that time. If you are still unsure, please contact Roxanne Banta to discuss your situation.
- Q. If I have been using MINDBODY for years, is MBU appropriate for me?
-
A. MINDBODY is being continuously improved and upgraded with new features, so even our most seasoned users find that they learn a lot at the “advanced track” at MBU. Business theory, best practices, marketing and financial reporting are areas even our longtime users find immensely helpful to review or explore in greater depth.
Networking with your peers and applying in-depth analysis and advanced marketing and management techniques can breathe new life into even the most well-established business. If you are still unsure, please contact Roxanne Banta to discuss your situation.
- Q. What else can I do to prepare for MBU?
-
A.
- Complete your online registration survey and phone interview with Director Roxanne Banta.
- Make sure you’ve completed the Getting Ready Checklist from your registration survey.
- Confirm your travel and hotel arrangements (check our Travel and Accommodations page for details on locations and special rates at our hotel and venue partners.)
- We encourage you to read The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work And What to Do About It, by Michael E. Gerber. It’s an excellent analysis of the challenges of 21st century business.
- Be pro-active. Devote a little time to thinking about your goals for MBU: your one-on-one consultation, the technical training sessions, the business topics. What are your strengths and weaknesses? What are you hoping to learn? Clarity on these questions is one of the best things you can do to make MBU work for you.

Travel
New York City is one of the premiere travel destinations in the world! Please make your plans early. If you are traveling by air, LaGuardia airport is the most easily accessible to the city; however, many longer-haul flights fly only via JFK International, which is slightly further out. Newark Airport in New Jersey can be reached via mass transit buses or taxi and in some cases offers more economical flights.
For transit within the city or to one of our hotels, visit hotel websites for details on location and transportation. There are mass transit options from all NYC area airports; however, taxis are the most efficient and will generally cost $30-50 depending on traffic and distance.
Metro North, Long Island Railroad and New Jersey Transit trains run into the city regularly to Penn Station and Grand Central, both of which are a very short cab or subway ride to our suggested hotels and AVEnts.
