HandKey II

Schlage's Handkey II
Schalge (pronounced Shh-leg) is a maker of security products and owned by the Indiana based corporation Ingersoll-Rand Security Technologies. Schlage makes a commercial security product called the HandKey II Recognition Systems - Biometric Hand Reader. HandKey II can be installed outside of doors with compatible Schlage magnetic locks. The HandKey II will unlock the door if the hand placed on its biometric scanner matches the three-dimensional size and shape of a hand already saved in its database.

MINDBODY's Biometric Access Control Software
MINDBODY designed and supports a PC based software application called the Biometric Access Control software. This simple software program uses Internet technologies to connect the Handkey II to the powerful MINDBODY System. Once the software is installed and running on a computer, then a business can use if to record the handprints and MINDBODY barcode IDs of its clients. After the handprint and barcode have been saved in the software and Handkey II, then that client can use their handprint in combination with their MINDBODY ID to open a magnetically locked door. Once the client is set up, these are the sequence of events the client uses to unlock the door:

  1. The client enters his or her MINDBODY ID into the HandKey II.
  2. The HandKey II asks the client to place his or her hand on the scanner.
  3. If the hand's shape and size match the client ID, the Biometric Access Control software checks to see if the client has an active membership or contract in the MINDBODY system.
  4. If the client's handprint, ID, and active membership/contract are all verified, the HandKey II briefly unlocks the door's magnetic lock.
  5. The MINDBODY system saves a time stamped record in the client's Visit History, noting which location the client just opened the door to.
