Gift Cards & Account Payments

Although it may seem odd, the Gift Cards and Account Payment features work nearly the same.

Assignable Gift Cards - Introduction

Gift cards are a way for clients to turn cash, check, or credit card funds into account credit with your business. Our system then tracks this account credit. When a client buys a gift card for someone, even if it's called "1-hr Massage," they're really just buying account credit for another client within your system. If you want, you can still use an actual paper or plastic card with this feature. But for the most part, the plastic or paper card is just symbolic. Our system knows who is the recipient of the gift card credit at the time of sale (except for undesignated recipients... more about that below.)

Prepaid Gift Cards - Introduction
You know how Starbucks issues its gift cards? Just like a lot of other retailers: the card's value is tied to its unique card ID number. If the card changes hands, the money changes hands. That is how Prepaid Gift Cards are set up inside of MINDBODY, giving your gift cards more flexibility. You set Prepaid Gift Cards up the same way you do with Assignable Gift Cards. Prepaid Gift Cards can be sold online. Also, when the sale of a Prepaid Gift Card is refunded, the credit on the card is removed. Prepaid Gift Cards have the potential to boost revenue just based on the plain fact that people lose cards. Or they just never use them. Large retailers make tens of millions of dollars from unused gift cards. For instance, in June of 2006, Home Depot Inc. reported $43 million in pretax profit from unused cards sold before 2002.

Account Payment- Introduction

Our system lets clients buy things on credit with your business, sort of like they're running up a tab. Your clients can pay off their debt later with real money. You can also have a refund policy that states "Store Credit Refunds Only." Then, when you process a refund, clients can be refunded credit within your studio... not cash. Some of our cleverest clients have been using this feature to create what they call "Studio Credit," which lets customers turn $100 of hard cash into $120 of Studio Credit (it doesn't have to be that exact ratio). You simply offset the "Credit Amt" from the "Unit Price." More on that below.
